Revisions…

Revision_Process Revising, editing, re-reading, additions, discrepancies, continuity – these are skills I am becoming familiar with. As a reader, I enjoyed being immersed in a story, there was never any thought as to how it was created. Now I have even more respect for any writer or author who has toiled over a work in progress. The many hours required to ‘perfect’ the story with character building, plotting and resolution are integral to making ‘a great read’. With my current WIP I have made huge steps in ‘polishing’ it with the help of a few kind friends. Their comments and suggestions are a vital part of this task. One was kind enough to loan me her ‘writing room’, which in fact is a summer house in the garden, jealous or what? Any author will tell you another person’s eyes are fundamental in this process. As the writer you have written, revised and read the same paragraph or chapter so many times, you are bound to ‘miss’ something. If you are not a member of a writing group ask family and friends but choose carefully. It must be a person who not only reads a great deal but also someone who will be honest with you. Happy writing and happy revising – it is so worthwhile and your work will ‘shine’ because of your blood, sweat and tears – and many frustrated thumps!
