After a wonderful birthday on Sunday, I am feeling thoroughly spoilt, loved and happy. It was such a relaxing day with my ‘kids’ – real one-on-one time with each of them.
This week I will be preparing for an author reading on Saturday. There will be local authors with some Writers Foundation members and Dream Write Publishing authors. I’m looking forward to reading from my newest manuscript, The Twesome Loop. (Official launch of the novel will be 30th September).
The best part of an author reading is the reaction to your words from the audience and the questions they ask.

My son brought this book, Peakbagger’s Guidebook, home directly from the source (author’s mom), but after the signing date, so we missed the event at Audreys (Michael and I were both working that night anyway) — but what a coincidence! It’s a GREAT book full of so much information about the mountains and trails.

Author readings:
The best parts are meeting with other authors and visitors as well as hearing snippets from books.
Prep:
1. Select a piece that’s most relevant to the event and audience.
2. Mark with a sticky (Post-It) or print the excerpt or article. (This is especially useful if you want to mark it up or leave notes for yourself.) I have my own Beyond the Precipice copy in which I pencil notes for readings.
3. Review it to see what kind of introduction you need to give to orient the listeners.
4. Rehearse.
