I was commissioned to write a children’s book last year about a dear friend, fellow writer, and local community titan. It was, and is, a privilege to have written a book celebrating her extraordinary life. Helen Lavender had the biggest heart, the warmest hugs, and tirelessly gave of her time to her community. Her achievements and range of volunteerism is phenomenal. One wonders where she found the time with her large family.

The book details her life through the eyes, and research of two children living in the new community of Hearthstone, Sherwood Park, Alberta. Where a park has been named in her honour and will be officially opened on 25th August 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at 1009 Hearthstone Blvd, Sherwood Park, Alberta.
