BIBLIOPHILE’S COLLECTIVE TUESDAY – SEASONAL BOOK COVERS

There is something special about the turning of the seasons into Fall (or Autumn if you prefer) when it comes to reading books. We envisage plush blankets, a fireside, fuzzy socks and hot chocolate. It is the ultimate cosy comfort snuggled up with a good book as the weather changes and the days cool and darken.

When we are choosing a book, it is usually the cover that entices us initially, so is it a conscious or unconscious decision to choose a seasonal coloured book cover?

Three of my novels have 'fall coloured' covers, which was completely unintentional at the time of creating them, but they do reflect this particular season. They were published in different years - Twesome 2017, Slake 2018 and Comoodore 2020. However, the content is not specifically Fall season, but take place in very different locations and time periods.

The Twesome Loop.

This story takes place in rural England and sunny Italy in the 1800's and 2000's. The cover is a reflection of the two main characters who find each other over time. They are twin souls reincarnated. The olive tree and old stone-walled well in the background are significant to the story - and that's all I'm saying!

Life in Slake Patch.

Is a speculative fiction novel, which means it is a vision of life after an catastrophic event and so is an alternative future of my imaingation. (And wishful thinking!) The narrative tells the point of view of a young man, Evan, living in a matriarchal system. His upbringing and beliefs are tested and the changes brought about by an insurgent group's actions. The cover reflects the prairie compound he lives in and his tryst, Kate.

The Commodore's Gift.

A romantic steampunk novel, so I wanted a mechanical look to the cover, which lent itself to rust brown and gold cogs. The surrounding cogs are a clue to the 'gift' given to the Commodore. The narrative is about Owena and her champion, Galen fighting against an evil regime. Although, it is based in an imaginery England it is open to interpretation of location and time period.

Does the colour of a book influence your choice? If so why?

Where is your cozy reading spot?

All of these novels are available on the usual online purchasing platforms - Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Indigo etc.
