WORDSMITH’S COLLECTIVE THURSDAY – 9 TIPS FOR BOOK FAIR ATTENDANCE

Home » Blog » WORDSMITH’S COLLECTIVE THURSDAY – 9 TIPS FOR BOOK FAIR ATTENDANCE

As we begin the year there are a number of scheduling items we need to take note of, one of which is, our attendance at book fairs and events during the year. Some of us have regular events we attend and note the dates down on our calendars. However, there are always new events being held that we need to be aware of. Many advertise across social media, while others have a mailing list. If you see an event you are interested contact the organizer sooner rather than later – spaces go quickly!

However, its important not to commit to too many events, or you will exhaust yourself – this is of course personal preference and subject to your other commitments. Also ensure you have enough stock to cover these events – no-one wants to run out of copies of our book(s), bookmarks, flyers, business cards, other swag etc.

Tip 1 – Plan in advance what you will take and stock up.

Tip 2- Promote the event well in advance with social media posts and invites on your website/blog/newsletter.

Tip 3 – Be prepared by designing your table display in line with the size of the event tables.

Tip 4 – Bring a camera/fully charged phone

Tip 5 – Bring water and snacks. You need to keep your energy and hydration up.

Tip 6 – Bring a canopy if the event is outside with weights. It might be hot, windy or raining! Bring weather gear/blanket for you and protection for your display too.

Tip 7 – Ensure you have a method for payment – cash, bank transfer, or electronic device (fully charged)

Tip 8 – Don’t hurt your back – get something with wheels to transport your books etc. to and from your vehicle. I use a large suitcase.

Tip 9 – Remember to networkk with the other authors.

What tips can you share about planning for an event?
