A Word A Day…

January 1, 2013
mandyevebarnett

I was given a neat ‘a word a day’ desk calendar for Christmas so will try to share it with you each day. Here’s hoping this lasts with all my other projects for this year!

inchoate (adjective) in-koh-it

Definition: 1. to be in an initial or early stage; just begun. 2. imperfectly formed or formulated

Such an apt word for the start of our New Year, where resolutions, goals and aspirations are foremost in our minds. We hope for many things for ourselves and our loved ones at this time of year but what puzzles me is why this hope does not continue throughout the year? Maybe we should make each month a beginning instead of laying all our aspirations into January?

Make a goal for each month instead, that way we know we can achieve at least twelve goals! I would love you to share your ‘goals’ – it will be fun to compare.

goals

My list goes something like this –

  • actively seek freelance work
  • revise NaNoWriMo novel into an educational book
  • plan a trip to England
  • blog more often
  • increase my ‘social media’ presence

More Time Needed

Time management can be tricky at the best of times but with NaNo the segments of ‘free’ time to write are even more precious. I look to other writers – trying to look beyond the obvious and gleam an insight into their methods of finding time. There are numerous hints and tips to try but in the end you know your life and its limitations best. You may get up extra early, stay awake until the breaking dawn or cram a few paragraphs into your lunch hour – whatever works for you and your writing – is the right way to go.

I would like to share something I found by William Blake, written in his Auguries of Innocence.

To see a world in a grain of sand,

And a heaven in a wild flower,

Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,

And eternity in an hour.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to have eternity in an hour? Think how many stories could be written – absolutely wonderful.

Enjoy your writing time whenever and wherever that maybe.
