Mandy Eve-Barnett is a multi-genre author writing children’s, young adult and adult books. Every story has a basis of love, magic, and mystery. Mandy currently lives in Alberta, Canada but is originally from England. Her background is diverse and gives her rich experience to utilize in her writing. She has been a nursing professional, a business owner, and a sort after administration expert. She has traveled throughout Europe, parts of America and Canada and was born in Africa.

Mandy joined a writers group about 10 years ago and has not looked back. She shares about reading her first piece of writing to the group “I thought okay, I have to write something. So I write this very short piece and it had a twist at the end. So, you know, I was really nervous, but I read it and the room went quiet. I’m thinking, “NO OH!?” I’m never coming back again, it was obviously dreadful and they absolutely hated it. Then everyone went, Wow! They just loved it and that was the hook for me to have a reaction to something I’d written just was absolutely thrilling. I’m just thinking I have to do it again.”

Mandy is passionate about writing to the point of obsession and she succeeded in becoming a published author in record time. With eight books published since 2011 and one more launching in September 2020, she indulges her Muse in creative as well as freelance writing. Her venture into freelance writing has been successful in creating projects as diverse as social media posts, promotional literature, and professional biographies, to ghostwriting a marketing book. She also regularly contributes to the Never Been Better page in the Sherwood Park newspaper, has been published in several anthologies and collaborated in creating a ‘how to begin writing your memoir’s’ guide book for seniors.

Mandy regularly blogs and she encourages support and networking of all writers as a writing community advocate. She is also prolific on social media in a multitude of platforms. As the current Secretary of The Writers Foundation of Strathcona County and past President of the Arts & Culture Council of Strathcona County, she lives her creative life to the fullest.

Article-Writing

An article is a written work published either in a print or electronic form. It can propagate news, research results, academic analysis, or debate. These articles are published within a magazine, which is a collection of written articles. At its root, the word “magazine” refers to a collection or storage location.

Magazine writers are essentially journalists. They find, research and write stories that interest readers in line with the particular magazines genre they are submitting to, so it does vary greatly from the kinds of journalistic articles written for newspapers.

Articles follow a format with a headline, a byline, a a lead and the body or running text and finally the conclusion. There are various categories of articles:

Academic paper – an article published in an academic journal. These articles give their writers status within their particular academic field, by the frequency they are cited by authors of other articles and how many articles the writer has published.
Essay – a piece of writing that gives the author’s own argument.
Scientific paper – an article published in a scientific journal.
Blog – blog article subjects are as diverse as the writers creating them from magazine type content to personal journal to refined subject matter.
Encyclopedia article – is primarily a division of content.
Marketing article – content designed to draw the reader to a commercial website or product.
Usenet article – a message written in the style of e-mail and posted to an open moderated or unmoderated Usenet newsgroup.
Spoken article – a audio recording, commonly known as a podcast.
Listicle – an article where the primary content is a list. These are most popular on blogs.
Portrait – portrait of a person.

Articles can cover a multitude of subjects and there is always a ‘place’ for your views and thoughts, should you want to submit content.

Another Successful Conference Completed (Exhausted but Happy)…

After months of planning and late evenings finding presenters, creating a schedule, leaflets, programs, and goodie bags etc. our writers conference was a great success on Saturday. Without our excellent volunteers the event would not have happened. We began at 7.00 am preparing for registration and breakfast. A steady stream of registrants arrived and were handed draw tickets, goodie bags, programs and a warm welcome.

Our presenters were well received and everyone went away with valuable information, new friends and prized silent auction items. With a diverse schedule of topics there was something for everyone to learn, no matter their preferred genre.
