Bibliophile’s Collective Tuesday – Little Free Libraries

August 30, 2022

I spent some time driving around my local area yesterday, placing books in little free libraries. The styles and colours are all very individual and the range of books just as varied. The locations are somewhat difficult to find among the streets, crescents and drives, but I managed a few! It will be interesting to see if I am contacted about the books I left and my other novels. As a local author it is this connection I find so gratifying.

I looked up some facts about free libraries. From its humble beginnings, with first one being built in 2009 by the late Todd Bol in Hudson, Wisconsin, as a tribute to his late mother, a book lover and school teacher. There are now over 100,000 registered in 91 countries and on every continent except Antarctica. To date more than 120 million books have been shared worldwide. We should celebrate that fact alone – after all stories are part of human history and the future. Access to books should be for everyone, no matter where they live.

Do you have a local free library? Do you frequent it or own it?

Although, this celebration was yesterday, any day is ‘read a book day’ – won’t you agree? I thought it would be fun to see what kind of reader you are. My reading habits are eclectic across many genres (I write that way too), so I think the closest is extrovert reader for me.

Please put your answer in the comments.

I have booked my ticket for a virtual interview hosted by Bloody Scotland – Scotland’s International Crime Writing Festival of Stephen King, as you all know he is my ultimate writing hero. I am so excited for this event, not just because it’s Stephen but also because I am in the midst of writing a crime trilogy.

Stephen King and Linwood Barclay (online) Saturday 18th September from 8:30 pm – 9:30 pm BST

Who is your literary hero?

Enthrall – definition: to hold spellbound; captivate; to be amazed

As writers and authors we endeavor to captivate our readers with the stories we write. We want them to immerse themselves in the imaginary world we create. Defined and believable characters, good plot structure and compelling situations are all required in a novel narrative.

Enhancing our writing skills assists us in achieving the goal of amazing our readers. There are a multitude of books on the market to help us perfect our writing.

Do you have a favorite ‘how to write’ book?

I found these excellent links, which focus on the captivating element:
