As I love conversing and sharing with other writers, I have taken up the challenge.

  1. What makes you dance?  The completion of a manuscript, the first sight of the new book cover and any music with a great drum beat.
  2. What is your favorite genre?  Don’t really have one… I read multiple genres and write them as well. I favorite Stephen King, Kate Morton, Felix de Palma, Maeve Binchey and James Long. So you see a broad spectrum.
  3. If you could have lunch with one of the captains from Star Trek or one of the characters from Star Wars, who would you choose and why? My husband watches these shows…not really my cup of tea. Although, I am drawn to the strong female characters. B’Elanna and Seven of Nine are great levers of those around them and do not concede quickly. As for my choice of Star Trek captains, I think I would choose Captain Kathryn Janeway – she stands her ground but her decisions are emotion and instinct based, which is her strength.
  4. Which five books would you take with you to a desert island? Ferney by James Long, Under the Dome & The Stand by Stephen King, The Lilac Bus by Maeve Binchey, Thrush Green by Miss. Read.
  5. Why did you start blogging? I was encouraged to begin blogging by my publisher and members of my writing group to highlight my passion for writing and to connect with other writers and promote my novels. I enjoy the community and interaction of my blog and set a schedule and theme/topic for the year prior to New Year’s day each year. One year I utilized a desk diary word of the day and created posts every day using the day’s word. It was a lot of work but was thrilling to see where my mind went to create each post.

Do please link back here if you take this award – I’d love to read all your answers!  Or if you don’t want to take the award, then answer some of the questions in the comments below.  Let’s get to know each other!

I would like to extend the invitation to my followers and these are the questions I have set.

1. If you could become a character from a novel, who would you be and why?

2. Given the opportunity where in the world would you live and why?

3. What was the first song (record, CD) you bought?

4. Which movie(s) do you wish had not been made from a book(s) and why?

5. Which era do you prefer in art?

Do have fun and link back so we can find your answers or leave a comment here.

Q&A 7 Deadly sins of books

March 12, 2015

I couldn’t resist having a go at this writerly ‘tag’ post. Thank you to: https://romance4thebeach.wordpress.com/2015/03/02/tag-seven-deadly-sins-of-reading/  for allowing me to snag it.

7 sins tag

greed

Defined as: An intense and selfish desire for something.

What is your most expensive book?

This depends on how you define ‘expensive’. I treasure the book I received for an art contest when I was in primary school – The Story of Hiawatha. Not only did I want to win the contest but in particular this first prize. The book is slightly worn but I will never let it go – it is my treasure and irreplaceable.

wrath

Defined as: Extreme anger.

What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

A difficult question as I accept most writers as we approach, create and write in our own unique way. However, poorly written, constructed and badly edited books really upset me. Obviously there are the ‘Grey’ books, which are awful but also hastily published ebooks and some paperback books that you know were not given the proper time and effort to edit, revise and review. Poor craftsmanship reflects badly on the author and alienates your readership.

gluttony

Defined as: Intense over-indulgence.

What book have you devoured over and over with no shame?

One that stirs my imagination every time I read it. Ferney by James Long. It is exquisitely written and I re-read it often.

FERNEY

Sloth

Defined as: a reluctance to work or make an effort.

What book have you neglected to read due to laziness?

A couple of freelancer guide books are awaiting completion on my shelves due to not having a block of time to study them in detail and take copious notes!

Pride

Defined as: satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.

What book do you talk about most in order to sound like an intellectual reader?

To be honest I can’t think of one in particular. It depends on the situation and the theme of the discussion. I will refer to a book that would inspire others, help define or make my point.

lust

Defined as: a strong sexual desire.

What attributes do you find attractive in male characters?

I do not genre prefer characters in narratives. If a character is strong, capable (or even especially wicked) I enjoy their personality and mission.

envy

Defined as: a feeling of discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else’s possessions, qualities, or luck.

What book would you most like to receive as a gift?

A signed copy of the first edition of Carrie by Stephen King. He is the ultimate storyteller and this edition would be placed underneath the personal letter I received from Stephen.

Let’s Play Tag – 15 Questions Just for Fun…

February 26, 2015

I grabbed this from Jackie over at To Breathe Is To Write – a great idea. Why not do your own answers?

15-questions-tag

What do you think you can do but can’t?

Be all things to all people – but I do try! It is a female’s dilemma to nurture, protect and create an all encompassing loving and creative environment for her family and friends, and if there is time or space a little something for herself.

What’s a difficult word for you to pronounce?

I’m told I say ‘demons’ – wrong! Sounds like ‘demonds’ so I’m told.

What are your favorite TV shows from your childhood?

Wow now you have me thinking. Robinson Crusoe, White Horses, Animal Magic, Dr. Who, Crackerjack,  Steptoe & Son, Dr. Finlay’s Casebook (Dr Finlay (man on right of photo beside little lady- was my first crush) Steptoe & Son – tag line “You dirty olde man.  The White Horses – I can still hear the theme tune.  I grew up with Dr. Who from the original Doctor onward. There are too many to name and they weren’t all in black & white!.

What are your virtues and vices?

Virtues: Fierce loyalty and love to family and friends.

Vices: Can be selfish with my time when the Muse speaks.

What’s more important: love, fame, power, or money?

Love of family, money to ensure they are looked after.

If you could live in any era/time period, when would it be and why?

1960’s – life was seemingly simpler but probably because I was a child then. There was respect for our elders, less technology and childhood innocence.

If you had to redo your entire wardrobe with 2 stores, what would they be and why?

I regularly do this anyway – thrift stores allow me to change everything cheaply. I tend to avoid clothing stores because of the mark-up they make.

Can you recall what you were doing a year ago on this day?

Exactly  what I’m doing now, sitting at work wishing for the workday to end so I can work with my publisher, Dream Write Publishing this evening, as I do every Thursday.

Do you have reoccurring dreams? If so, explain?

I rarely dream now-a-days. My only recurring dreams were when I was struggling with emotional fears of one sort or another. One was being paralyzed in a hospital bed with blood dripping until it filled the room. The other when my children were young and the three of us were trapped under an avalanche. (which in itself is odd as I lived in England at the time!) To protect them I cut my stomach open, empty the contents and place them inside the void to keep warm…gives you an idea how my mind works when I’m writing now doesn’t it!!!

What’s your horoscope?

gemini

For a while now, you’ve been wanting to do a certain something, but haven’t quite been able to give yourself the necessary nudge to get going — until now. This push may come in the form of someone else’s inspiring story, a sudden influx of cash, or maybe it’s just that little voice inside of you getting louder. Whatever the cause, you will finally get that needed push out of the nest. Hit the ground running and move forward with this fun and exciting adventure!

What does your dream bedroom look like?

I would need to morph these three into one – I’ve always wanted a round bed – don’t ask me why I just have! Earth tones are my favorite as well as large windows, which have to overlook Rome or the Italian countryside and let in the golden Italian light .

What position do you sleep in?

I always slept on my front but after my back injury it is not as comfortable so mostly I lie on my side now.

What are your all-time favorite films?

Another difficult question. There are so many and my answer varies depending on my mood. I love Julie & Julia, Thelma & Louise, Lucy, Carrie – is there a theme here? I also watch multiple genres.

What makeup are you currently wearing?

The usual – Compact powder, eyeliner, mascara and lipstick.

Do you have neat handwriting? Show us!
