1st August has become Spider-man Day for many fans. The popular character debuted August 1, 1962 and has transitioned from comic books to animated cartoons, from action figures to live action movies. Although the date of Spidey’s first appearance in comic books is disputed (some say June 5, others say August 10) National Spider-Man Day is now celebrated on August 1.

So how will you celebrate the day?

  1. Watch a Spider-man movie? Which one is your favourite? Sam Raimi’s classic trilogy or the more recent Marvel movies?
  2. Play a Spider-man video game? Older version or new?
  3. Read a Spider-man comic? Grab a copy from your local comic store, or local library.
  4. Dress up as your spider hero, or make a homemade mask.
  5. Go in search of spiders – find the largest one as a game with friends, or release home bound eight-legged creatures into the wild.

It is a tribute to the character that he has spanned generations and still remains a favourite with kids and adults alike.
