Bibliophile’s Collective Tuesday – Wine and Book Pairings

There is always time for a good book and a long weekend, a vacation, or just time alone calls for a good book and a good wine and a snack! So how do you pair deliciousness to the genre you are reading?

For comedy pair it with fun flavours of a Muscato, which is usually light bodied and sweet, sometimes with tropical flavors and light bubbles.

Find the perfect 'couple' for a romance with a Cava, with its bread-y and nutty savory aromas, or maybe a Cabarnet Sauvignon, with black cherry, blackberry, black currant and notes of savoury spice and black pepper.

To delve into a biography a Valpolicella, flavoured with tart cherry, cinnamon, and chocolate, or maybe a classic tome with a Beaujolais, tasting of raspberry, tart cherry, and cranberry.

Escape to the past in a historical novel with a full bodied Bordeaux, with flavours of black currant, plums, and earthy notes, or a Loire Valley sparkling wine with floral aromas of acacia, carnation and fruit notes of pear and apple. .

Engage your sixth sense when reading a mystery sipping a Pinot Noir with its undertones of forest floor, tea leaves, and sometimes even clove.

Contemporary novels pair well with a Chardonnay, whose flavours can change depending on the vineyard, such as flavors range from apple and lemon to papaya and pineapple and fantasy, or sci-fi with a Zinfandel with its candied fruitiness followed by spice and often a tobacco-like smoky finish.

For me after years of red, then white wines, I now almost exclusively drink White Zinfandel, specifically Gallo. It is light, fresh and easy to sip.

Do you have a specific wine you enjoy when you read? Why did you choose it?
