I had the great honour of authoring this children’s book about a local woman, whose life was phenomenal in every sense. Helen Lavender raised a large family and kept a small holding, volunteered thousands of hours of her time to many organizations, was a Councilor, a bookmobile driver, a Storyteller extraordinaire among other incredible achievements. I had the great fortune to know Helen personally, through my writing group, so this book was extra special.
On Sunday 25th August, there was a park named in her honour, hence the title of the book, at a new community development just north of Sherwood Park, Alberta called Hearthstone. The building developer, Mattamy Home, wanted to celebrate a local person, and I can’t think of a better choice. This was a great project to be part of and it will always be special to me. My friend, Amanda was the illustrator and join me to sign copies of the books.

The event was popular with crowds of friends, family and resident’s and I was happy to meet so many people who knew Helen. She has left a lasting legacy. If you would like a copy of the book here is the link

The goodie bag I received, which was a real surprise and gratefully received.
