Welcome Suzanne Burkett.
1.Of the characters you have created or envisioned, which is your favorite & why?
My favorite is the giraffe in my story Giraffe. He is my favorite character because he is an innocent creature who has lived his entire life in the zoo. He was content until he discovered there was more to living than he realized. He takes action. And as frequently happens in life, his first try doesn’t go as planned. But he can’t give up on his heart’s desire and ultimately he discovers a way to get what he wants. Sometimes a big leap leads back to the small step that is the best resolution.
2.Do you favor one type of genre or do you dabble in more than one?
I like the freedom of fiction. But I also enjoy research and incorporating facts into helpful information. It really depends on what has been on my mind my mood when I sit down to write.
3.Have you got a favorite place to write?
I have a big antique oak desk that was a gift from a friend. Her father refinished it at one time. It meant a lot to her so since she gave it to me, it naturally means a lot to me.
4.What inspires your stories?
My stories are mostly inspired by observing nature. I watch people, animals and trees. I am inspired by the gestures of people and things they say, how they eat, or a fleeting expression on their face. I watch how animals behave with complete confidence in the universe and that gives way to countless thoughts ideas.
5.Do you belong to a writing group? If so which one?
Writers Foundation of Strathcona County. An amazing group of talented writers.
6.What age did you start writing stories/poems?
I wrote my first short story at age 9. It was a mystery about the devil. I wrote it in a tiny notebook. I don’t know what happened to it, but I gave it to my father to read and he was so surprised that I had written a story and created a plot. I will never forget the look on his face. I was also writing poems for my mother at that time.
7.Do you have a book published? If so what is it called & where can readers purchase it?
My books are available on Amazon.com. How to Get Along with Yourself and Others: Wit and Wisdom for Natural Living and Life is a Piece of Pie in Your Eye; Slice of Life Stories.
8.If you could meet one favorite author who would it be and why?
Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I absolutely love his books The Shadow of the Wind and The Angel’s Game. His books are set in Barcelona. I hope to visit the locations one day. His mind works like mine.
9.Where can readers find you and your blog?
My blog is not up yet. But it is in the works. Readers can visit my website: http://www.suzanneburkettauthor.com
10.Who is your best supporter/mentor/encourager?
Mandy Barnett from The Writer’s Foundation of Strathcona County. She popped out of cyberspace and has literally changed my life for the better. She is my soul sister.
Thank you Suzi for your enlightening answers.
