Gobbledegook Thanksgiving…

Gobbledegook – definition: language characterized by unintelligible jargon, usually hard to understand

Is there a theme developing here? Yesterday’s word regarded nonsense language as well. I promise I use my desk diary words as they appear each day. However, for those of us in Canada, it is an apt word for today as it is our Thanksgiving and turkey is on the menu! Gobble, gobble, gobble.

Many of us have been subjected to ‘gobbledegook’  in the small print and any legal or official documentation. It seems to be purposely written in such a way that any normal person finds it impossible to figure out. But may be that’s the point…

On a serious note though, whenever you are faced with a legal document, take the time to read it thoroughly. If you do not understand any part of it ask for that section to be explained. Many ‘new’ writers do not understand the ‘rights’ section and fall prey to ‘all rights’ are owned by the publisher. This can give them rights to take a percentage of any and all compensation you may receive, if your novel becomes a play or a movie etc. Seek legal advice if you are unsure.
