We all know that libraries are special places for readers of all ages. Most libraries receive some form of government subsidy, but unfortunately, this often falls short. This is where a Friends of the Library organization comes in. Through their efforts money can be raised for extra events, and supplies, allowing your local library to extend programs to the betterment of everyone utilizing the library. The Friends also stimulate the gifts of books, magazines, CDs, and DVDs, special collections and specialize materials, iPad's, computers, endowments and bequests, to name a few.
Their advocacy also raises public awareness, provides people with a passion for their local library the opportunity to give time to benefit it, and to partner with other community groups. The most effective Friends can ensure a library does not close! This can be through many types of fundraising events, such as book, yard, and bake sales, silent auctions as well as capital campaigns.
My local library Friends is very active and as are all very thankful.

Does your local library have a Friends group? Do you belong to it?
