The writing prompt was write from an animal's perspective - let me know what you think.

It’s in My Nature

Warmth penetrates my fur

My body relaxed and curled

Upon a favoured cushion

Full belly and day begun

***

A fluttering by the window

My ears twitch side to side

Beyond the windowpane

I spy a panicked bird

***

Stretching out in slow movements

I keep my head still

Eyes focused on my prey

Dusty feathers glass marking

***

With practiced ease I descend

From windowsill to floor

Shoulders undulating, mouth salivating

I approach the portal to outdoors

***

Frantic flapping and high pitched squawks

Meet me as I leap into the air

Claws catch feathered wings

But hand grasps me from behind

***

Carried back to homes interior

My owner’s words scold me

Then I’m set upon tiled floor

My natural instincts ignored

***

Another day I will succeed

For now I resume my slumber

Knowing at the allotted time

A meal will be provided

***

A hand strokes me affectionately

I purr as expected

The carcasses of my trophies

Well hidden under deck stair

***

It is my nature after all

Deep within my genes

To hunt and stalk creatures

Whether feathered or furred

***

I relish my given comforts

The ease of my existence

Affection on my terms

And master of my domain
