BOOKS BY FRIENDS, BOOK ORNAMENTS AND A NEW FAVOURITE AUTHOR
We all have, from time to time, some kind of collection. Some last a lifetime, others are limited to a specific time of our lives, or the sheer volume proves unmanageable and we have to part with all, or some of the collection. Whatever the reason collecting anything gives us pleasure in some way or another. We all know absolutely anything can be a 'collectable'. Some increase in value with time and this gives us an excuse to keep the collection. Other collections are purely for sentimental reasons, or part of a trend we become consumed with. Think - spicy books on TikTok!
When I was thinking about this subject, it occured to me that I have two collections in my home, that are special to me as an author/writer.
Firstly, my book themed ornaments, which are housed in a separate shelving unit. It began with a couple of pieces, but these were soon added to either as gifts, or as impulse buys! As you can see there is a real assortment of styles. As the shelf is now cramped for space, I think this collection is complete. Famous last words!

What do you collect?
My other collection is one I am particularly fond of - books by author friends. This collection has grown over the sixteen years I have been a published author and writing community advocate. Meeting other writers and authors is as much a thrill for me as anyone, and a signed book is a precious keepsake. The shelf is overfull now so there will have to be a rearrangement in the near future.
Do you have any signed books?

And lastly, but no less important, I was delighted to find several books by an author, I discovered a while ago in my local bookstore. M.J. Arlidge's Eeny Meeny captured my imagination when I read it and I have been on the lookout for more of his novels. He is a crime writer and I find how he structures his chapters fascinating as a writer and reader. These new books will be my next 'research' project, prior to redrafting my own crime trilogy, The Delphic Murders next year.
