Wordsmith’s Collective Thursday – Non-Fiction Writing

Home » Blog » Wordsmith’s Collective Thursday – Non-Fiction Writing

There is a fundamental difference between fiction and non-fiction writing. The obvious is one is made up and the not! The definition of non-fiction in literature is it is not rooted in a fictional narrative, but based in history, biography, instructional, commentary or philosophical topics.

I have written a non-fictional workbook with a couple of other authors. The workbook is based on a presentation, Your Lifetime of Stories ~ Ideas for Writing Memoirs, and compiled using the workshop details into a workable format. The book includes ways you can identify, record, and organize your collection of memories, so you can begin to write your stories. It is not a how to write but a how to begin workbook.  Contributing authors: Mandy Eve-Barnett, Linda J. Pedley, and Karen Probert. Link

The other non-fiction book I wrote was a hybrid marketing book, told as a story. It was an idea to combine fiction and non-fiction in this book, my freelance client loved it!. Link

I do have an idea for another, but currently I am immersed in fiction writing. Watch this space as they say.

For my non-fiction writer friends take a look at LitFest, it is a remarkable resource for learning and networking.

This festival is just 3 weeks away. Go and take a look at the details here. It is Canada’s first and only nonfiction festival.

Whatever your writing style, genre or type, just keep writing.
