Wordsmith’s Collective Thursday – Shout Out to Libraries & Librarians

This week we celebrate those marvelous people - librarians! From 6th-12th it is National Library Week, with the 8th as National Library Workers Day and the 9th National Library Outreach Day (formerly National Bookmobile Day).

Librarians facilitate access to information and resources within a library. They curate collections, provide educational programs, manage databases, and primarily support learning, research, and exploration for library members. A library is a free resource open to everyone and we need to celebrate their vital contribution to their communities.

I count myself lucky to have my books in five separate libraries within Alberta - Strathcona County, Sherwood Park, Leduc, Jasper, Fort Saskatchewan, and Spruce Grove. Of course, I want them in a lot more libraries, not only in my province, but also across Canada (and the world - insert maniacal laugh here!) so if you feel inclined please request any of my books for your local library too! It is an easy process too with many libraries having special 'local author' shelves. Sometimes they purchase, but as an author you can also donate a book.

Do you use your local library? What do you like best about it?

I host the monthly writers meeting at mine and also attend writing related sessions and take advantage of the annual Writer in Residence program.
