My music tastes are as eclectic as my writing genres, from classical to rock to pop to techno and more. If you saw my audio streaming list you would think it was compiled by several people, not just one.
I don't always write with music in the background, however when I am contemplating a story, or wanting to set up a scenario, music can enable my mindset to delve into a specific focus.
Music is actually a powerful catalyst for creativity, no matter what type of creation you are working in. It influences mood and narrative style, while evoking memories and emotional connections.
Another benefit is that listening to music can enhance productivity, help us to stay focused and eliminate distractions. It is also able to reduce anxiety, improve concentration, and increase motivation. Therefore is can be the ideal environment for creative thinking.
So pick your music genre as carefully as your writing genre and make the two align. For example, I used country music for my western romance, Willow Tree Tears. A medieval chant for The Rython trilogy and space techno for my YA novella, Creature Hunt on Planet Toaria. It steers your mind into a specific area giving your Muse a tangible link to the scene, or story you are writing.
Have you used specific music to aid your writing?
What music style was it?
